RocketPort Serial Hub Si - Access Control Provider

Challenge

Limiting access to locations, data, and devices while connecting, analyzing, and monitoring these points. Both property and data needed to be protected -- access control provides proper control over a number of different office areas, parking lots, and data that needs to be kept secure. The access control provider knew they could create the hardware to secure these items, but needed a way to link all of these units together for monitoring the area and analyzing data.

Technology Solution

Created a central location to serve as the "control center" for access control and linked serial-based security devices to it using Comtrol's RocketPort Serial Hub Si. This control room enabled one person to view all of these different access points from a central location. It contained a server and other instruments for monitoring and analyzing their access points.

Ethernet and Comtrol's RocketPort^® Serial Hub Si were the primary means of connecting from the main control room to the following security components:

• Parking garage monitors
• CCTVs/cameras
• Bar code scanners
• Perimeter controls
• Real-time events monitors

The access control company also implemented proprietary software to run simultaneously with other software programs, and automatically alert operators of an event if that operator was working in another program.

Comtrol's products went through months of intense testing to ensure they would be reliable and stable in the access control environment, leading to a highly reliable, centralized, security system.
